Interested in learning new skills?
Play Jazz with us!
Lingard will be changing the Jazz and Pop Programme from offering regular group activities to weekend workshops run by Sarah Logan and Jazz specialist educators. All music will be specially arranged for the workshops and is unique to Lingard. We will play big band to the latest chart hits, and from classic jazz to funk.
The workshops will be split into tailor-made beginner sessions for youngsters who are fluent beginners to Grade 3 standard as singers or on any woodwind or brass instrument, piano/keyboard, drums/percussion, electric guitar and bass guitar.
AND improvers sessions for Grade 4+. A perfect way to gain experience in playing your instrument with others, develop your sight reading and aural skills, learn how to improvise and make new friends! There is no need to worry if you haven’t played jazz before or improvised, we will take you through all the steps!

Comments from past members of Lingard Jazz Bands:
Matt Wells, 07-08 Quintet Pianist comments: “The Lingard Quintet has been a fantastic learning experience for me, both in gigging and rehearsing, through which my playing as an individual and as a band member has improved massively. Thank you for organising the quintet etc, I have had a fantastic time and learnt loads.”
Comments from people who have hired the Quintet say…
“Please pass on my thanks to the quintet, they did a great job and their flexibility was much appreciated. I trust they did well in their A-levels. Thank you for providing the quintet and also for being so flexible regarding the preparations. I will happily recommend Lingard Music and future quintets should the opportunity arise.”
Father of the Bride at whose wedding in Winchester the Quintet played for during their Reception.
Tom Greenwood hired the band for his birthday party. He writes to say:
"I am writing to say how well the band did at my birthday party. I had 35 guests altogether with an age range of 1 to 89. We all enjoyed the selection of music and how it suited the occasion. I was impressed by their professionalism and musical ability. There is no doubt the band enhanced the occasion and added that special touch that makes parties stand out in the memory. They clearly have a great future as a band and as individuals. Thank you for bringing something extra for a special occasion for me. I will certainly be asking for them again!"
And earlier ...
When the Quintet played at last summer's Braishfield Summer Fayre the organiser commented afterwards: "Thank you on behalf of the School and PTA for your excellent support of our Charity through your thoroughly professional 7-piece Quintet!
Not only great musicians but such delightful well-mannered people, and a great example of how this World would be so much better if youth were all of their quality."
At the Up Sombourne Village Party last July, Martin Hughes said,
"We were really impressed by the quintet, they had a very positive attitude ...They added a perfect atmosphere for one of the very few nice days of the summer."
And in September, the bride at the Wedding Reception at Lainston House Hotel said,
"We were so happy with the band at the wedding, they were fantastic and everyone really enjoyed them!"
You can't get a warmer recommendation than that!
